Ulster v Edinburgh It’s the business end of the rugby season and European rugby’s greatest prize is at stake as we reach the semi-final weekend. Two Irish provinces remain in the mix and the potential of an all Ireland final in Twickenham, on May 19th. The surprise semi final of Ulster v Edinburgh will take place on Saturday in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium and Ulster are slight favourites heading into the tie. Both teams were massive underdogs in their quarter finals, Edinburgh disposed of four time Heineken Cup winners, Toulouse in [...]
The uncomfortably candid diary of a post-surgery patient
Six months ago I was waking up in Cappagh Hospital on Dublin’s north side. Disorientated, in pain and a little unsure as to what exactly had happened, I was whimpering because my brain couldn’t process thoughts to words. The injury, in journalistic terms, was a non-event. I like to tell girls in bars that I was trying to save a puppy who had wandered out onto a busy road, or that I was wrestling bears in Alaska like a beast. The truth is a small chap fell on my knee, [...]

Vettel Back On Top As Red Bull Look Threatening Again
Qualifying for the Bahrain Grand Prix took place this afternoon and the season continues to be unpredictable, as Red Bull return to the top of the grid for the first time this season. Round one of qualifying saw an upset as Michael Schumacher seemed to be off the mark and only managed to set a time of 1:34:845, meaning he’ll start the race in 18th place. Lewis Hamilton claimed top spot with ease in Q2, giving him the opportunity to rest his tyres for Q3 while Rosberg clocked in a [...]

Studenty Sunday: Life Lessons Edition
Every Sunday Roisin Peddle takes a look at the top ten stories that made the headlines this week on Studenty. 2012 might be ancient at this stage but it doesn’t mean that we here in Studenty have forgotten about New Year self-improvement. Among our top ten stories are nuggets of golden, crispy wisdom… 1. The actress Maria Doyle Kennedy and Kevin Kennedy recently played a gig in Kinsale. Tom McCarthy found it an almost religious experience… 2. Ireland lost one of its most impassioned campaigners recently with the death of [...]
Big Mick is Gone- Mick McCarthy sacked as Wolves manager
Wolverhampton Wanderers have announced that manager Mick McCarthy has been sacked. McCarthy’s position was made untenable by a 5-1 home defeat to rivals West Bromwich Albion on Sunday – a result that was greeted with fury by the home fans in Molineux stadium at the final whistle. Some fans vented their anger towards the directors box during the game and a couple of hundred fans protested outside the ground, long after the final whistle. The defeat was the latest in a woeful run that has seen the Midlands club drop [...]
Harry Redknapp cleared of tax evasion
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp was cleared of tax evasion Wednesday, removing a key barrier to his chances of becoming the next coach of England’s national team, following Fabio Capello’s resignation. Redknapp was found not guilty on two counts of concealing US$295,000 of transfer bonuses in a Monaco bank account while in charge of Portsmouth. In a case that stemmed from a $13 million police inquiry into soccer corruption, former Portsmouth chairman Milan Mandaric also was found not guilty on two counts of cheating the public purse. Mandaric hugged Redknapp as [...]
