Studenty’s Simon Bracken reports on the Euro 2012 final where Spain beat Italy 4-0 to seal a historic third consecutive major tournament triumph.
Euro 2012:Can Ronaldo ‘do a Maradona’?
Can Ronaldo ‘do a Maradona’? It is the semi-final of an international tournament. In one corner, the favourites, low scorers but relatively comfortable in all their games.
Superb Spanish send Ireland packing
Irish fans were still singing loud and proud last night as Ireland crashed out of Euro 2012 following a master class performance by Spain, putting Ireland to the sword to win 4-0. The usually organised Irish defence, which had been instrumental in the team qualifying for the Euros in the first place, was simply swept aside by a Spanish team at the top of its game. Before the match, an RTÉ poll revealed that over 75% of Irish fans believed that the team could get a result from the game. [...]
Your problems solved:By Sorcha Ni Shuilleabhain Age 9
Dear Sorcha, My grandson Archibald, who’s just completed his goal keeping degree at Wembly University is an avid reader of your column and suggested I ask you for your advice concerning some issues we’re facing here in Krackow. In a nutshell, its all a bit tense. To help me cope, the FA have produced a kind of Venn diagram to show who has slept with who’s wife and which players have a court injunction out against each other. I plan to overcome these issues with a bit of a singsong over [...]

McShane replaces betrayed Kevin Foley
Paul McShane is the surprise inclusion in Giovanni Trapattoni’s Irish squad that is going to Euro 2012. Due to fitness reasons, McShane takes the place of Wolves right back from Kevin Foley. Kevin Foley, who played 45 minutes in Ireland’s game against a Tuscan Select XI on May 29, has said that he felt betrayed by the decision. “It is hard to take, you know. I don’t want to go into too much detail. I just feel betrayed,” said Foley. The game finished 5-0 to the Irish with goals coming [...]
Ireland Team To Play Bosnia & Herzegovina Named
The Ireland team to play Bosnia & Herzegovina at The Aviva Stadium tomorrow has been named. As expected Shay Given and John O’Shea will not take part due to injury, and are replaced by Kieran Westwood and Paul McShane, respectively. McShane was called up to the squad during the week,as cover.Although he may yet find himself on the plane to Poland,if Ireland’s injury worries in defence don’t improve. Darron Gibson starts ahead of Keith Andrews, while James McClean makes his first start for the Republic Of Ireland. The team in full is; Westwood, [...]
Manchester: a City United in Champions League agony
As the dust settles on an early Champions League exit for Man City and Man United, the thought of Europa League football will be like a punch in the gut for them – and so it should be. With United only needing a draw against Basel, they were favourites to go through to the next round from Group C. Meanwhile, City needed to win and hoped that Villarreal would do them a favour and take points off Napoli. In the end, neither scenario came to fruition and now the prospect [...]
Euro 2012 – No point in praying for a miracle
So, the draw for Euro 2012 has been made. The Republic of Ireland have been drawn in Group C and will have to reach heights not seen since Italia 90 to progress to the quarter-finals. World Champions, Spain, along with Italy and Croatia await Trapattoni’s men in Poznan and Gdansk. And as one of the most Catholic groups ever seen in European Championship history, praying to a higher power for qualification to the last eight would be like pissing in the wind. With everyone praying for the same thing Spain’s [...]
Euro 2012 The Irish will do it the hard way
The draw is made. Being the lowest seeded teams in the draw left the Irish at a disadvantage from the start. The real hope was Ireland would draw the hosts in Euro 2012 but alas the luck of the Irish was not in tonight. Drawn in group C we have it all to do the hard way. Spain the current World and European champions are the first seeded team in our group. Followed by Croatia, not the force they once were followed the Spainish and the Irish in group C. [...]
