Oh, alcohol: Why must you be so bad?

Oh, alcohol: Why must you be so bad?

Drink, drink, drink, and wait for it…more drink. A night drinking loads of alcohol usually sums up a night out for most students. One individual alone could consume a bottle of wine, four cans of Bulmers and a nagin of vodka before midnight. When you see that written down, it doesn’t seem as harmless as it did while you were drinking it. Welcome to college: the land where binge drinking is not seen as a problem, but as a way of life. Ireland’s drinking culture: Time for a change?

Ireland’s drinking culture: Time for a change?

Yesterday was Good Friday, one of the two days of the year that the pubs in Ireland are shut. Regardless of the fact that you can drink the other 363 days of the year, some see this as an absolute disaster. I watched a TV3 news report on all the places where you can still get a drink- trains, boats with passenger licences. Do we really need to find loopholes? Can we not go one day without buying drink? On Thursday outside the coroner’s court in Cork, two heartbroken parents [...]

Ireland, the land of the drunk?

Ireland, the land of the drunk?

St Patrick’s Day, the day when people of all nationalities flock to Ireland to celebrate the man himself and of course to drink with the Irish. St Patrick was not drinking a pint of beer when he banished those pesky snakes from Ireland, so why is it that many people drink like alcohol [...]
