An Affair to Remember- how the Kristen scandal will affect the movies

As a self-confessed celebrity gossip junkie, I have to say that the Kristen Stewart cheating scandal is the best celeb story of this decade so far. Why? Well, we have everything- the star that has fallen from grace, the unbelievably handsome yet sensitive heartbroken actor, the scorned ex-wife, and a legion of insane fans that are unleashing their feelings on the world.

However, when we look past the emotional drama, there is a slightly bigger issue that will affect Stewart, and also her colleagues. The final film in the massive Twilight saga, Breaking Dawn Part 2, is due for release this November. The film details Bella Swan (Stewart) coming to terms with being a newly born vampire with her now husband, Edward (Robert Pattinson). The tagline that features on the teaser posters is, ironically, “Forever”. One of the biggest draws for the fiercely loyal and often obsessive Twihards is seeing all of the cast members side by side at publicity events in preparation for the movies. So, the question is- how the hell is that going to work?

The latest scoop on the Kristen-Rob drama is that Pattinson has moved out of the home that the superstar couple shared, and is refusing to talk to Stewart. While this is all very difficult for the pair, can you even imagine the difficulty that leading stars in one of the biggest movies of the year not speaking to each other will cause on the publicity tours? The cracks have already begun to show in the promo tour. Stewart and Pattinson were scheduled to present an award together at the MTV VMA’s on September 6th, but doubts have been cast over this plan.

And even if we look past what is going to be the most awkward press tour of all time, the ramifications of Kristen’s mistake spread way past teenage vampires. A sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman had been planned after the summer film was a box office success. However, as we all know, Kristen’s bit on the side was, in fact, Snow White director, Rupert Sanders. The effect that this scandal has already had on both Sanders’ and Stewart’s lives and careers makes another collaboration between the two practically impossible. Therefore, there only seem to be three options- a) replace Kristen as the lead character, b) replace the director and change the entire film’s aesthetic, or c) cancel the sequel.

Both parties are claiming that the ‘affair’ was nothing but a few kisses, and is being made out by pro-Kristen supporters as a silly mistake by a 22-year-old. I don’t know, but most 22-year-old’s mistakes don’t have this much of an effect over the movie industry. We can only wait and see if the Twihards forget all about this, Robsten get on with their responsibilities and Sanders’ wife trusts him enough to work again with the alluring Stewart. But one thing’s for sure- this is the scandal that will keep on giving!
