Mark Roche preview Rhys Darby’s return to Ireland and his hilarious new show which is sure to have us saying nothing but ‘yes, man’.
Rhys Darby, star of Flight Of the Conchords, Yes Man and The Boat That Rocked returns to Dublin with his new stand-up act, “This Way to Spaceship” in Vicar Street, Dublin, Thursday June 20.
Already awarded a Fred Award since it’s debut in April “This Way to Spaceship” is an autobiographical journey from meek geek to king of cool; Darby is sure to surpass his competition with this side-splitting guide, to living a life of success as an average Joe.
Darby is best known for his role as Murray Hewitt, the hilarious half-wit manager of Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement in the hit HBO Series Flight Of The Conchords which propelled him to new heights, featuring alongside Jim Carey and Zooey Deschanel in Hollywood comedy Yes Man as well as Brit-cult sensation The Boat That Rocked.
It marks a significant point in Rhys’ career as his tour coincides with the release of his first novel of the same name; This Way to Spaceship: A handy autobiographical end of world companion.
Rhys has promised surreal musings, life stories and a healthy serving of nonsense. His nonchalant attitude and sincere approach to comedy has made him one of the most endearing comedians of the last few years.
If 2012 does herald an Armageddon then this show may very well save your life, or at least send you out laughing.
