It’s Raise And Give (RAG) Week in DCU this week and this year, DCU’s relatively new RAG Soc set the ambitious goal of raising €10,000 for a host of charities including: Bee for battens, The Make a Wish Foundation and the DCU Hardship Fund. Each day of the week-long event will also feature a “RAG Challenge”, something fun and different you can do to help raise funds while having the craic.
Unfortunately you have missed Mondays action which included Brush boarding, a visit from FM104 and dunking unlucky people in a vat of none too clean (or warm) water.
However don’t panic, there is loads more to come.
Tuesday kicks off with a DJ in NuBar from 11am to get the blood pumping before Rock and Roll Bingo begins at 3pm. Drop in for a bit and when you hear any of the songs on the sheet cross them off. Challenge your mates to a game and win some really cool prizes.
You can head down to The Venue for Barry Sinclair at 5pm to be astounded by the wonders of hypnotism. It promises a hilarious experience and you never know, you may learn a thing or two about how your mind works….
Damo and Iver from “Everybody’s Drinkin” fame will play Tuesday night in The Hub along with Dead Presidents. Tickets need to be purchased in advance from the ticketmaster upstairs in the Students’ Union. Only €5 to hear Ivor’s dulcet tones and the skanger raving of Damo? A bargain, we say!
Tuesday’s RAG challenge is to handcuff yourself to a friend (a very good friend) for 8 hours. The aim is to raise €10 each. Handcuffing begins at 9am-11am in The Venue.
Wednesday will see Michael Winslow, Motor Mouth from Police Academy, in the Venue at 9pm. All the sound effects you can get from a human for only €7.
The RAG challenge is a pyjama and pillow day finished off, for the hardcore, with a sleep-out opposite the Henry Grattan for 24 hours with the St. Vincent de Paul (SVP). €15 is the fundraising aim for Wednesday.
Thursday is for all of you out there looking for love as ESoc will host a Take Me Out night in The Venue at 8pm. It’s €2 in and you can expect a night of laughter, lights and banter.
Afterwards head to the far-flung location of The Palace for the night. The venue has repealed their 19′s rule for the night so all with appropriate ID and a DCU student card can come and experience its wonders. The event starts at 11pm but if you are considering arriving fashionably late remember that it is only €6 before 12am and €8 after.
And to top it all off Nubar will be providing a full fry to help you get over the stress and effort of the week on Friday morning. Breakfast is served between 10am and 11:30am for the first 150 people through the door so you better drag yourself out of bed early.
So get out there, enjoy the week, have fun and raise some much-needed funds for some great charities. It’s a win win situation…
