New Years Eve 2011 – Dublin events

As the New Year approaches have you decided where will you be when the ball drops?  Not yet? Never fear here are a few of the best events happening in Dublin for the annual celebration.

The Dark Horse, Georges Quay

If you want to celebrate New Year’s surrounded by some the best contemporary Irish DJs, then this event is for you. The line-up includes the talent of JD Dyslexic, P Hocto, Mark Hoare, Brophy, Unsafe Girl and Badman Deego. Expect techno, bass, jungle, and rave. The even better news is that this gig is FREE in (utterly unheard of for NYE), and there are drinks from just €3.50.

So come down to the Dark Horse and dance your socks off this New Years. Did I mention they sell Buckfast at the bar..?

Doors: 9pm

Cost: FREE

Club Hell AKA O’Reillys (Underneath Tara St Station)

I still call this place the SubLounge, but these days its more popularly known as O’Reillys, and Saturday night are otherwise known as Club Hell.

This New Years Eve, Club Hell will be Rock N Roll party central. All drinks are only €3, with bottles of champagne for just €15. To mark the New Year, there will be a massive balloon drop at 12:00. Expect to hear all rock classics tonight, by DJ Helmut, and enjoy the beer garden/banshee bar.

Doors: 9pm

Cost: €6.00 (tickets available from O’Reilly’s Bar now)

The Gypsy Rose,  Aston Quay

This year, the Gypsy Rose will be playing on the ‘end of the world’ theme, with its New Year’s Eve Apocalypse Party. To make the debauchery all the more justifiable, the night will be hosted in support of two very worthy causes, The Irish Cancer Society and Temple St Children’s Hospital.

Drinks are €4 until midnight, so you can get nice a merry before the big countdown. Expect to hear an array of rock classics as well as some newer stuff from resident DJ Sugartits.

Alchemy, Fleet Street

Alchemy are holding a Black and Gold Masquerade ball this year to ring in the new year. Dress to impress, as there will a prize for best dressed, and because it is such a special occasion, expect to see fire breathers, burlesque dancers and a magician.

Alchemy is over 20’s so make sure to bring ID. Doors open at 10pm, and tickets cost €15 at the door. €10 advanced tickets available from Buskers NOW!

Doors: 10pm

Cost: €10 (advance tickets available from Buskers now) or €15 at the door.

NYE can be hell if you aren’t organised. We hope our guide will give you a better idea of  some of the things on this year, so that this can be one to remember.

Whatever you choose to do, be it rock out or dance around your hand bag, give it some serious socks and have an amazing night.

Where will you go to say goodbye to 2o11?

About katiekelly

Things I care about: Having fun, writing, knowing my own mind. Things I don't care about: The Kardashian's, Shoes, Dubstep. Other than that, I'm a bit of an all-rounder. I love music, and am partial to be a bit of techno but am not limited to electronica (believe me my taste is too vast to write down). I adore to read and write. I'm mildly sarcastic in a non-pretentious way. People who get my humour will think I'm hilarious. Those who don't will think I'm a weirdo (and they wouldn't be totally wrong)! So enjoy my general musings and keep on truckin'! All views expressed are mine. ALL MINE!!
